Gems, chests and the routes that lead to them.

Treasure collection games ask a different question from coin games. A coin is a small, frequent reward - you collect a lot of them and the value comes from the total. Treasure is rare, high-value and usually placed somewhere awkward, so each individual piece is a decision: is the route to that chest worth what it will cost me?
Everything called treasure on this site is fictional and virtual. Chests, gems and jewels here are in-game collectibles with point values - twenty-five coins for a chest, ten for a gem - and nothing more. This category has nothing to do with real-world treasure hunting, metal detecting, numismatics or collecting physical coins and antiques.
Mechanically, the defining rule is that treasure chests are never magnetisable. The magnet and vacuum power-ups will pull coins, silver coins, tokens and gems toward you, but never a chest. That single exception is what preserves the risk: a chest always has to be physically reached, which means the route to it always matters.

What to know about this category
Placement is the mechanic
Across this category, treasure is deliberately put where the safe route is not. In Treasure Hopper, chests sit above the crumbling platforms with the shortest fuse. In Crystal Coin Quest, gems are at the end of platform chains with no solid ground in the middle. In Treasure Tunnel, the high-value branch lines run near the walls of a channel that is still narrowing. The reward is always attached to an increase in risk.
Complete collection as a structure
Castle Coin Hunt takes a different approach: instead of putting treasure somewhere dangerous, it makes the exit refuse to open until every coin in the level is collected. That turns a platformer into a search, because you cannot simply run right - you have to cover the entire map, and the keys and locked doors are positioned so the natural route becomes a loop.
Values and what they are worth chasing
A treasure chest is worth twenty-five coins and contributes three toward your combo streak, which is often enough to push you up a tier on its own. A gem is worth ten coins and contributes two. When you are deciding whether a chest is worth a detour, the combo contribution is usually the larger part of its real value, not the raw points.
When to walk away
The most useful habit in this category is being willing to skip a piece of treasure. A chest is worth a few hundred points; finishing a level is worth over a thousand once the clear and sweep bonuses are counted. On your last life, the arithmetic almost always says leave it.
Treasure Collection Games — frequently asked questions
Is the treasure in these games real?
No. Every chest, gem and jewel is a virtual in-game collectible drawn in the game's own art style. They have point values inside the game and no value of any other kind.
Are these games about real treasure hunting or coin collecting?
No. This is an arcade games site. Nothing here relates to metal detecting, real-world treasure hunting, numismatics, currency values or collecting physical coins.
Why will the magnet not pull treasure chests?
Deliberately. Chests must be physically reached, which keeps the route to them meaningful. If the magnet pulled them, the risk that makes treasure interesting would disappear.
Which treasure game should I start with?
Treasure Hopper. It is the most approachable of the group, the bouncing is forgiving, and the screen wrap means you are never cornered.
How much is a chest worth?
Twenty-five coins in raw value, plus three toward your combo streak. In most games that works out at several hundred points once the multiplier is applied.
